As with most recommendations for products or services, shopping recommendations for software are generally off topic. The products change too quickly, and differences are largely opinion-based. Questions asking for the best raw converter, or the best app for this or that, are very likely to be closed.
Instead, you might describe a particular problem you have as it relates to photography, and it may indeed be that the answer is "Software xyz makes this easy....".
Alternately, you might try the beta http://softwarerecs.stackexchange.com/, which specifically focuses on software recommendations, although make sure to follow that site's guidelines.
