I've watched / read someday something about adding color into a photo using the addition method and subtraction method inside Lightroom.

Addition method is adding in non-existing colors to an image using the tone curve. The other method, the subtraction method has something todo with the split toning. Does anyone know what it does mean by subtraction method? And in what case should you add color using the rgb tone curve and when using color grading (split toning)?

Should I think of the subtraction method like if you've i.e. a photo that has a warm white balance - a style that you want to achieve. But where the ground is too warm. You'll use this method to add in blues in the shadows (ground), to subtract that orange color by adding in more blues, so it will be less orange?
