Looking for a good action shot camera with the ability to change shutter speed. Will be photographing rodeos and dirt track cars. But my budget is slim for now nothing more then $300. I have the Nikon Coolpix L340 which is ok but not quick enough. Thanks.

  • Any specific model advice will be outdated in an internet moment. Perhaps this ought to be reworded to focus on functional recommendations for budget action shots. Basically, gear recommendations are off-topic here. – jdv Feb 11 at 2:55

@jdv – "functional" recommendations for "budget" action shots is also a moving target b/c functionality keeps improving. Maybe technically against the rules, but for off-topic/gear recommendations, I think it's fine to answer in comments as the question accumulates close votes and dies. Then the OP will have at least gotten something useful out of it. – xiota Feb 11 at 5:47
  • An issue you don't mention is how far you'll be from the action and how much zoom you'll need, if any. I'd consider a used mirrorless camera with a fast lens, but that might still be outside your budget. – xiota Feb 11 at 5:53
  • @xiota, I agree. I'm not sure this is salvageable, but I am willing to see what the community thinks. – jdv Feb 11 at 14:22

Bradie, the L340 has a max ISO of 1600, max shutter of 1/1500, max burst of 1 shot per second for 4 seconds, and autofocus speed of ???...when you say it's not "quick enough"...what exactly do you mean? Please describe why you feel that you are missing shots? – Hueco Feb 11 at 17:58
