In this review of phone cameras I came across one data point that intrigued me: They appear to write the sensor size as a fraction, in this example
1/5.8". What exactly does that mean?
My hypothesis was that it was
(1/5.8)" = 0.1724" = 0.4379cm, is this correct?
And if so, why would you write it as a fraction?
