Probably a novice question, but how do I correctly diagnose from a photo for what reason that camera wasn't able to focus properly? Or tell if the image was blurry for some reason other than incorrect focus?

It can be any 1 of the following

  • Unsteady hand
  • Lens issue
  • Metering
  • Re-Calibration required in camera
  • or ...

Is there a set of unsaid protocols that needs to be followed by a photographer?

Goal is to get a sharp and crisp image prior to editing.

[PSHere's an example: I'm capturing a scene of an old man, with a handheld camera to focus on his eyes with 50 mm lens, with Single AF point on his eye. But when I ownzoom in to check, the focus isn't right. I have an understanding of basics. I notice that this doesn't happen on a Nikon D5200d5100, but frequently on my d5200.]
