Apr 27, 2018 at 19:47 comment added mattdm @PeterTaylor It's not that it doesn't work on the selection but that it doesn't work as a brush.
Apr 27, 2018 at 19:43 comment added Peter Taylor I'm puzzled by point 4. I don't know what the "Color Exchange" dialog is in the Gimp, but all of the dialogs in the Colors menu (including Hue-Saturation, which sounds like what you describe) work on the selection - and I'm still using 2.6, whose copyright information suggests that it dates to 2008.

add high bit depth for an even ten. explain adjustment layers more since that seems to be a point of confusion. and, link the roadmap here.
Aug 23, 2011 at 17:22 comment added mattdm @cabbey: see this q/a. Photoshop also has layer blend modes like those in Gimp; Adjustment Layers are a feature beyond that, so it's not accurate to say that Gimp is trying (which implies that they're not doing as well). It's simply something not implemented.

Mar 6, 2011 at 5:52 comment added cabbey Very true @mattdm. Maybe "minimal, limited, adjustment layers." instead of "No adjustment layers." since they do at least TRY.

Mar 5, 2011 at 21:42 comment added cabbey it's not really fair to put the adjustment layers on there, as I showed in my vibrance answer, it does have them, they just work differently.
