Jan 13, 2016 at 17:38 comment added inkista Film era sensibilities vs. digital era sensibilities. [grin]. Sub-24mm lenses were super rare in film days. Hence, anything below is UWA. And given that the 11-24 is probably the only rectilinear lens in that range for FF, and it only came out last year, I'd say, yes, it's a new category.
Jan 13, 2016 at 17:36 comment added Michael C And if 24mm and shorter is UWA on FF, then 11mm is Super Ultra Wide Angle or some such thing. LOL
Jan 13, 2016 at 17:33 comment added Michael C I guess if you go by the Wikipedia description you are correct. But I've never considered my 17-40 to be UWA, only WA.
Jan 12, 2016 at 20:55 comment added inkista @MichaelClark ..forgot: or the Tokina 16-28/2.8.

added not on monopods. typo fixes
Jan 12, 2016 at 20:45 comment added inkista @MichaelClark Not necessarily. You don't have to get the 11-24L. The 16-35L II, a used 16-35L I or 17-35L, and the venerable 17-40L all cost less. And one can always go super-cheap with the Samyang 14/2.8. :) It is more costly than crop, but if, say, you go with a used 17-40L, not by a lot.

Adding note on expensive full-frame Ls.
Jan 12, 2016 at 15:19 comment added Michael C If you ever make the move to full frame, rectilinear ultra wide angle becomes very expensive. amazon.com/gp/product/B00T3ERXKE

Adding note about how the numbers are for crop, and full frame equivs addition.
Jan 12, 2016 at 0:57 comment added inkista @DanWolfgang Good point. Given that the question already assumes a 700D, I took it as read. Adding.
Jan 12, 2016 at 0:38 comment added Dan Wolfgang In your first paragraph, I think you should qualify that you're offering these focal length measurements for a crop sensor camera.
