To give a wider AoV with a larger image circle for the same focal length, each element of the entire lens must be made larger in diameter. More corrective elements will also be needed, as aberrations increase the further one moves from the center of the optical axis. There's no such thing as a "1X teleconverter", not even theoretically. A "1X TC" would output the exact same image circle as the bare lens would (except the back of the 1X TX would need to be its own thickness closer to the sensor/film). | |

But yes, the extra distance will magnify the image. I notice that 1.4X teleconverters exist, maybe a 1X teleconverter might be possible that enlarges the image circle and allows a tilt/shifting mechanism. That might be a useful possible design? | |
