On Stack Exchange, we believe the core moderators should come from the community, and be elected by the community itself through popular vote. We hold regular elections to determine who these community moderators will be.

Community moderators are accorded the highest level of privilege on our community, and should themselves be exemplars of positive behavior and leaders within the community.

Our general criteria for moderators is as follows:

  • patient and fair
  • leads by example
  • shows respect for their fellow community members in their actions and words
  • open to some light but firm moderation to keep the community on track and resolve (hopefully) uncommon disputes and exceptions

Every election has three phases:

  1. Nomination
  2. Primary
  3. Election

Please participate in the moderator elections by voting, and perhaps even by nominating yourself to be a community moderator!

I'm Scott. I have been a regular participant here since 2015. I have regularly contributed to the site's review queues, and feel that I have a good understanding of the community's direction and requirements for how it wishes to entrust its moderators.

This would be my first Stack Exchange community moderation position if elected. Please read my answers to the election questionnaire to better understand my position on moderation.

I'm Philip. I've been hanging around this site for a while now, and I hope I've got a fairly good idea for how the community works at the moment and some of the issues we face. As a moderator on another (lower traffic) site in the network, I've also got a good idea of what being a moderator involves.

Please do take a minute to read my answers to the election questionnaire as I think they give a good insight into my views on moderation, probably better than this escalator pitch can.

Thank you, good luck to the other candidates and a big thank you to our retiring moderators for the service they've performed for the site.

This election is over.
