Where is Canon 1100D autofocussing in low light low contrast conditions? were you half-depressing the shutter and waiting for it to lock? or fully depressing and allowing it to focus and shoot? I have found that in the later case, the camera's priority is to just focus on ANYTHING as fast as it can and shoot, as opposed to actually putting some effort into focusing. my guess is that it cant find a focus point so just shoots anyway. |

When determining exposure, is ISO typically taken into consideration secondary to aperture and shutter speed or is it equally as important? I would say it comes after Aperture and Shutter speed yes, which order THEY come in is dependent on the job/shot required - HOWEVER I will let someone else answer fully... |

What reduces blur from camera movement more: large aperture or image stabilisation? (in focus) well for example my Nikkor 50mm f1.4 is quite soft at f2 and wider, and VERY sharp at f8-10 (ish) |

What influences the shape of a lens flare? Thanks for updating the question, interesting: it seems to be caused by the acute angle to a long telephoto lens as far as i can tell, it doesnt appear to be a vertically compressed frame either. But I'm not sure if there are any other underlying effects caused by this being a movie camera / lens (there could be significant differences in lens and/or shutter design that are inherent to movie vs still cameras) ETA: Die hard - very seasonal :-D |

Why don't most cameras use infrared for focusing? @MattGrum - yes I know, but all IR LED's emit an amount of visible red as well - for example night-vision cameras with IR illuminators, you can see a glow from it. |

No idea, I've never had to have a camera repaired - it could be as simple as a sticky cog or bad motor, or as bad as a mainboard fault. Most likely not worth bothering though, as you have another, and its an old camera anyway. |

Which is more efficient when shooting weddings: interpolating sRAW or shooting in jpeg? agreed - but I use a D800... and 4GB CF cards. (and a permanent 4GB SD as an overflow) Personally I like being limited to say 50 shots per card, it makes you think more about each shot. |

Why is shutter speed usually limited to 30 seconds? Thanks - I really find it odd that there isn't a simple manual entry mode eg next to bulb where you can just set say 48 seconds and leave it to it. Might be a nice little thing for someone do do in a custom firmware (wink wink nudge :-) - D800 please!) |
