@jrista, on this website look for the heading "C-type vs Giclee printing – a technical comparison", it says that inkjet print can produce only 256 colors per square inch and that c-print can reach up to 16 million. So that would be consistent with AJ Hendersons answer. Furthermore, they say that resolution is sort of equal, that giclee is more archival and that c-prints are slightly more resistant to physical damage. So I'm still confused about c-prints' superior status in the artworld..

@jrista, What I don understand is the part about dithering. Because lambda prints as far as I know use an RGB laser for exposing the paper, which is also reliant on a kind of dithering in the final image. So there would be dithering with either kind of print as far as I know (even if you print in the dark room the negative will consist of dots of exposed light-sensitive chemical of different colors and intensities).

@mattdm, I've seen that post, maybe I should rephrase a little, because what I'm mainly interested in is: what resolution is good for a print of this size (seeing that people will watch a large photo from a bigger distance). (the other information I can get from the other post)

@JamesYoungman, I'd say from 1,5 to 3 meters.
