I work at a large international development charity in London, as International Operations Manager. I manage a team of Regional ICT Service Managers, based in developing world countries, who keep our users happy through fixing problems, setting up great connectivity and generally making sure users can do their day jobs.

I previously worked at the same place as International Network Systems Analyst. I looked after a bunch of ICT systems in offices in the developing world, as well as looking after systems in our HQ. I gained a lot of knowledge in that job, and the techy side competes with the people stuff in the new role, hence I still hang out here a lot.

I'm passionate about the use of ICT in developing countries, both in terms of dealing with the inherent problems for ICT in those places, and using ICT as a tool for development.

comment Are there any major drawbacks to buying a used flash gun?
In the end I followed several used Canon 480EX on eBay, all of which went at within £10 of the price of a new one from Amazon. I even saw a couple which went for more than the price of a new one. I bought new. An extra £10 is worth it for not having to worry that what turns up isn't in a poor state.

IOS 5 promises to make the Camera App more quickly accessible - lets hope they also do something about time between pressing shutter release and capturing the image.

I have the DSLR with nifty 50mm lense, but it isn't with me all the time - the camera phone is and inevitably it is times when the DSLR is on the shelf that something is going on that I really want to capture.

comment What to consider when scanning 35mm film (and scanning in general)
That is an excellent answer - just what I was looking for. Many thanks!

Yeah - I saw that, but I want to know a bit more than "buy X scanner because I say it is great". What should I be looking for in a scanner for what I want seems a better question, IMHO.
