comment New to photography: Buy a full feature body or an entry level one
Hi, if you're curious I suggest using the search function of this site first. That would yield you previous questions like this one, or this one. Or perhaps this question will be useful.

comment Is a DSLR required for making a DIY 3D scanner?
I do not know which DIY instructions you've read, so can't judge why they direct you to a DSLR. However, it might have something to do with the fact that DSLR's allow for manual focus, full manual exposure controls and (often) tethering to a computer.

comment How can I find a petal-style lens hood for my Nikkor 55-300mm f/4.5-5.6 (or any lens which doens't have one)?
Not an answer, but perhaps helpful: lenshoods.net/nikon.php provides diagrams for lens hoods that you can print out on cardboard an cut-out. Your lens is not listed, but maybe a similar lens is listed under the other brands?

@MichaelClark I did not find such a setting in LR.

comment Do the clipping indicators in Lightroom show that the value is at the maximum, or beyond?
@Octopus I do not understand what you are saying. The math will push what? What does full white mean? 100% white? When I tested it (in B&W) I saw that a 99.5% value already triggered a clipping warning.

My simple tests in LR seem to show that.

Maybe I'm missing something, but what is the difference between full auto without flash and the P-mode?

Have you looked for photography apps that allow to tweak the flash exposure compensation?

Wouldn't using the P mode solve this problem?

comment Auto button in Lightroom - can I adjust its default behaviour?
I agree with you on the annoying LR behaviour, but the question is more or less asked here before: Is Lightroom Auto Tone very dodgy?

comment Auto Distortion Control - do I need it?
Hi Herr Stormhammer, I found a mention of it in the manual. Was the explanation given there not clear? If so, what was the unclear part?
