I'm a PhD student in Computer Science, doing research in the field of data management. I work with algorithms for transaction processing (recovery and concurrency control), buffer management, and query execution in databases. I am also interested in Mathematics, especially analysis and probability theory. My hobbies are photography, music, and cooking.

What characteristics make a digital sensor good?
Good question! I cannot help thinking that the D800, for example, could offer much better dynamic range and ISO performance if Nikon would pack in less pixels. Say, 24M instead of 35M. Am I thinking wrong here?
