Is there software for detecting noisy areas in a photograph? You are just adding noise with this technique. |

What is a negative space in a photograph? I change the wording in this answer slightly by saying that the negative space is the area that doesn't contain your "subject". Also, I think some judicious use of photoshop could fix some of the problems here. The boats would be easy enough to clone or heal, and you could either convert to black and white, or perhaps do some selective color correcting to make the river pop a little more. It's perhaps not an ideal photo to work with, but if it means something to you or you like it, it could be worth a shot. |

Are mirror lenses good for wildlife photography in daylight? I probably sound snobby, but none of these examples here would persuade me to get a mirror lens. Mainly they lack sharpness and contrast. Regarding the bokeh, smooth and creamy is generally the ideal as it keeps attention on your subject rather than the background. There are cases when more aggressive bokeh can be a positive, even shaped bokeh or donut bokeh, but nervous, busy is generally a bad thing, even in standard lenses. I'd rather save money for a used standard lens that has the reach I want, but other people may disagree, and that's ok too. |

Canon vs Sigma 18-200 lens? I've found the best way to get real world comparisons is to go to flickr and search for pictures using those lenses. Most lenses will have an associated group where all the pictures submitted will be made using that particular lens: flickr.com/groups/18-200 and flickr.com/groups/sigma_18-200mm - Though keep in mind these will be the best shots a lens is capable of, but we often judge lenses by their weaknesses, not strengths. |

What lenses would best comprise a travel photography kit? I'd almost go for the Tamron 17-50 because of the size/weight advantage over the Canon 17-55 2.8. For macro, I'd go 60mm though, so much smaller and lighter than the 100mm and just about as good optically. |

Best image quality non-prime walk around lens for travelling with a Canon crop dSLR? That's a great lens, but a bit bulky for me if I was traveling. |

Best image quality non-prime walk around lens for travelling with a Canon crop dSLR? What are your primary needs for the lens? Obviously price is not a concern, however are you mostly interested in focal range, regardless or weight/size, or something with a more manageable size for carrying around? What about focal length versus aperture size for broader range of lighting conditions? Don't worry about L lenses vs EF-S lenses, there are a few EF-S lenses that are fantastic and a few L lenses that have noticeable flaws. Don't limit yourself based on the series the lens is in. |
