What is the best way to photograph a marathon? You can practice on any road race, a local 5K or 10K, etc. |

How do you replace a tripod leveling ball's tension bar? The key is to hold the locking handle from turning. The ViseGrip will bite into the threads of the stud for grip. It will destroy the threads, but you won't use them, that's what the replacement part is for. |

Could the Nikon V1 be a good camera for sports photography? "Good enough at all" is subjective and relative. I can't read the OP's mind. But I can say that for basketball and volleyball, they are played in dingy gyms and you need every bit of speed from your lenses and sensor that you can get. Part of the problem is that folks often are not serious hobbyests, as they shoot their kids or relatives in high school. These gyms are terrible. Same with high school football fields. |

Are Manfrotto tripod bases for video compatible with the photo line of heads? Said 1/4 to 3/8 adaptors are also very inexpensive. Well under $10, maybe even under $2. |

Does the Canon M have actual, significant deficiencies vs. the competition? my opinion is that both Canon and Nikon have carefully positioned their mirrorless cameras down to avoid eating their low end DSLR lines. Fuji and Olympus don't have any significant low end DSLR models to protect. Only my analysis. |

Will my SB-600 work off camera with any camera? "all cameras" is very hard to say, but "most" will be fine. Some Minolta bodes have a strange hotshoe, and you need either a special flash, or an adaptor. Since Sony bought Minolta, some of their models use the strage, Minolta-style shoe. |

What to do when all the display elements are stuck on on my Canon XT LCD and viewfinder displays? Good luck. While the XT was a great camera, its unlikely to be worth fixing. If it stays broken, and your budget is low, look at used T3i bodies. |

What are the most important features to look for in a low budget hotshoe flash and why? Right, it must be able to be manually controlled. The OP needs to decide if he needs TTL |

Is there a feasible workaround for Leica M Monochrom DNG files with Apple aperture? No interest in starting a LR vs Aper discussion. I too prefer the Aperture workflow. I just prefer the LR features a tiny bit more. Lens correction is a great ability -- maybe not as important with Leica lenses. |

Is there a feasible workaround for Leica M Monochrom DNG files with Apple aperture? Have you considered switching to Lightroom? It sells for only about $80. Scott Borne has a set of postings about switching, moving your library, etc. I followed them with good luck. I liked Aperture's workflow better, but got tired of Apple's slow release schedule. |

Canon Lens EF 50mm 1:1.8 II or EFS 18-55mm IS II for EOS 650D My daughter has the 50mm F1.4 and the 40mm F2.8 on her T4i. She much prefers the 40mm for indoor shots. As others have said, the 50mm on a APS-C is too long for many indoor shots. While its two stops slower than the 50mm F1.4, that is not as big an issue as we expected (we because I bought both lenses). |

Incorporating haze into landscapes The easiest, and cheapest, way to improve landscapes is to follow the "different times of day" advice. Shoot near dawn or dusk. It will make a huge difference. |

Lightroom Tethering and EOS Utility: How to get LR to accept sub-folders in auto-import? Not only is LR's own tether inflexible, its slow. I've found that it does some processing (don't know what) after 4 or so shots, and it then blocks further shots. DPP lets you shoot as fast as you like. |

Can't connect Canon 6D to my computer via USB cable Right, a Canon DSLR is not a disk drive to either Mac or Windows computers. Don't know why Canon decided to do it that way. The solution is to use DPP (the EOS utility) |

Should I invest in E Mount lenses? Nit: while Nikon has not changed the F lens, many old F-mount lenses (specifically the pre-AI ones) will not physically mount on many modern Nikon bodies. The coupling prong will not clear the pentaprism. |

What is a reasonable formula for depreciation of photography equipment? Zack Arias has a nice video on starting your professional photo business. He says first, get an accountant. youtube.com/watch?v=9l00Ey3n37E The depreciation rules are set by the IRS, and don't have much to do with real world. |

How do I best use a pop-up flash for indoor birthday parties? They are fairly high, but light travels fast. With a high ceiling, you have a longer throw, so you'll need to keep the power up. |

Is it worth to buy Canon 650D with 18-55 IS? @ital, the one box rule is no longer true. I bought a Canon T4i and it was cheaper with the kit 18-55 than body-only. It came in two boxes. I sold the 18-55 unopened, new in box. |

Zoom ring clicks after dropping my Canon 18-55mm IS II kit lens; what to do? Wow, one of the few things cheaper in AU than here. $95 is the standard price on the east coast in the US. However the fundamental point holds, $50 for a quote is without doing any work. Since the lens sells for roughly $100 new, they are unrepairable. Just like a toaster. |
