Another point I meant to mention... for regular manual shooters, is there a maximum aperture you tend to use? Should I just say to myself if I'm going manual that going wider than 2.0 would be a waste of my time? What's the widest aperture that you would use in manual?

comment DX 35mm vs FX 50mm
I own a D90, but I try to only buy FX lenses because I have every intention of buying a full-frame body eventually. If you plan on upgrading to FX someday it is something to seriously consider. Especially when you're talking about portrait lenses like these, where the difference in price is smaller than some of the 2.8s and the long telephoto lenses.
