@DietrichEpp The key is the all practical purposes bit. You are correct, it's not an exact thing. Exposure will be effected by manufacturing tolerances, interaction between optics and body--how much light is lost between aperture and film/sensor, and emulsion chemistry. Quality of light may be a factor too. That being said, my Gossen Luna Pro generally works in the real world (sometimes better than in-camera metering) and, for most practical purposes, f8 is f8.

It's also why a handheld light meter can give you a proper exposure value.
