Why is my camera so forgiving for overblown exposure? Fascinating. If I shoot RAW and then import into Lightroom am I automatically utilizing the full raw data when I make my tweaks with the various sliders, or do I need to get more involved with the advanced options? |

How to get back to photography after having a long break? @ShutterBug - then maybe it's time to change your name and explore other hobbies. You can't feign interest for long. There's no crime in changing tastes or taking extended leaves of absence. |

Nikon 5100- problems downloading onto computer- photos turning grey If you've used the same USB cable to transfer to two different computers and the results were the same, then you need to get a new USB cable or begin using a card reader. |

Nikon 5100- problems downloading onto computer- photos turning grey If the photos look good on the camera's screen it's not a memory card problem. It either is a USB cable issue or the card reader for the PC, depending on how (s)he is transferring the files. |

If I have a recent, mid-range DSLR, then why, if ever, would I need to buy another / better focusing screen? +1 - I ran into this issue myself when trying to use LiveView to do macro photography of some insects. My manual focus shots looked sharp in LiveView but always ended up just a hair out of focus whereas the auto-focus nailed it every time. It was puzzling until I realized the problem was my reliance on the rear panel, not my eyes! |

Is it safe to manually-focus the Nikon 18-105 while in autofocus mode? This is an interesting observation! Are there any lenses that are not safe to manual focus while in auto mode? That seems like a critical design flaw... |

What are some Chinese/Asian photo sharing websites similar to Flickr? @Alendri - Flickr's CDN is regularly blocked in China. You can browse the site's UI but the actual photos rarely if ever load. 500px, however, is accessible. |

How does one create the Dragan Effect? Regarding faces, I vividly recall a discussion I once had with a Filipino street artist in Manila. I noted that nearly all of his sample artwork on display (charcoal sketches) depicted Caucasian or African celebrities, not Filipinos. Without hesitating he replied that the average Filipino face was smooth, round, and soft and therefor not only difficult to sketch but boring. In his opinion they were, by comparison to Western ethnicities, featureless between the eyes and the chin. It was an interesting observation that has stuck with me. |

How can I get an advertisement-like photo of a pint of Guinness? +1 - I would only add that it might make sense to wear gloves when handling the glass, lest you inadvertently add a fingerprint or smudge that only appears when your "perfect" shot - after hours of painstaking setup - is blown-up and printed. |

Do any DSLRs offer in-camera file encryption? I'm thankful the legions of brave photojournalists documenting atrocities around the world don't follow your advice. |
