comment Megapixel race unnecessary?
What you're saying about diffraction is sort of true. Roger Cicala over at lensrentals.com have a nice blog post with numbers that show the (small) effect of diffraction.

comment Is using live view for accurate manual focusing really better?
You're asking if contrast detection AF is as good a manual?

comment What's the optimal size/quality for downsized photos for archival storage?
Could you elaborate on why multiple of 8 is good?

comment How much more would a DSLR cost with no time limit on video recording?
I disagree that it's off topic, because it highlights why DSLRs are limited to 29:59 when recording video and the actual cost for removing this limitation.

comment Rule of thirds — is there any scientific proof behind it?
Did you look at the questions photo.stackexchange.com/questions/521/… or photo.stackexchange.com/questions/8965/… ? I'm not sure it's quite what you're after.

comment What lens should I purchase for newborn photography with the Canon T4i?
I agree with @dpollitt that this is a duplicate, but the answers to the other question is quite outdated (heaps of new lenses in the recommended segment the last two years).

comment Is it better to shoot with a higher ISO, or use lower ISO and raise the exposure in post-processing?
This is not a good advice, see @Matt Grumm's answer for details.

@JamesSnell That's a different issue that might need some tweaking.

We are not, but we do have a free trade agreement with the EU, and implement more EU laws than any EU country. ;-)

The 4GB limit is easily handled in software by starting a new file, there are heaps of software out there that does this. And if I record in SD (not that I would) I still can't get past the 29:59 limit.

I used the "import calculator" toll.no/templates_TAD/ImportCalc.aspx?id=153564 (in Norwegian).

comment How to transform image to be projected undistorted onto a sphere
I'm not sure how to do this, but you might find some more information if you look at map transformation. The most common is called Mercator projection and what you want to do is the opposite.

This is probably a duplicate of the question @MikeW linked to.

comment How can I record long videos on my EOS 7D?
@Skaperen I don't know, but it's a good question.

How would you hook it up to a external drive? Not that it matters, since the time limit would kick in. The only way is to attach an external recorder using the HDMI, as explained on the ML wiki.

comment Which of these lenses allows a greater amount of light through at f/1.4: Canon 35mm f/1.4 or Sigma 35mm f/1.4?
Vignetting is quite easily fixed in post though, and it looks like it's only an issue at f/1.4, and gone by f/2.0. Compare it to the Canon here: the-digital-picture.com/Reviews/…

This is speculations, but an old design might be more expensive to produce. By using newer techniques and materials, you might be able to reduce the cost, but maintain (or increase) the quality.

Look like that was due to a bad copy, the original poster said as much. forums.dpreview.com/forums/post/50733155

Keep in mind that the Canon EF 35mm f/1.4L USM isn't weather sealed, so that's no different from the Sigma.

Made an edit to add some info about the quality of the EF 35mm f/2 IS.
