I never read these profiles, so I never write much. But thanks for caring enough to check it out.

comment How to get tack sharp portraits with shallow DOF when lacking an AF point where I want to focus?
I think you should also reconsider focus and recompose. Most cameras put the tripod mount directly under the sensor. So if you have the camera mounted on a tripod then you aren't really changing the subject distance when you recompose.

comment Is the angle of view actually different on APS-C?
So to summarize: The angle of view, depth of dield, and compression are the same for all 50mm lenses, whether the lens was designed for full frame or crop sensor. But because you're only seeing the center portion of the image with a crop sensor, you have to farther from the subject to get the same field of view. That farther distance changes the depth of field and compression. But the angle of view of the lens is not affected by where you stand.

comment How did Suren Manvelyan create the macro pictures of eyes?
I don't think the catch light is an LED panel, I think it is a grid (see link). That would make the side light very directional which would further enhance the texture. Also, I'm sure she used a narrow aperture to keep everything in focus. adorama.com/alc/0013664/article/Shooting-with-Grids-AdoramaTV

comment Post-processing to remove background reflections on bald heads
Maybe next time a polarizing filter could help to reduce the reflection.
