comment What should I do when the Lightroom 3 spot removal brush gets stuck?
Well this is the thing, it's the only action I was applying (so history was 'imported into lightroom' then spot heal) so the files weren't bogging down like they could have been after a few hours. I'll try killing the cache again though, but it's only a small library (close them off after 3 months). Weird bug!

comment Is there a custom firmware availble for the Canon 450D Rebel XSi?
I actually looked into it a bit more, the old old processors basically ran a controller that was fairly wide open to replacement, which made firmware hacking an absolute breeze, when the 450D dropped with a new processor in they'd moved to a different supplier and everything was hardened. Then the 500D was another new processor with it's own weaknesses, and Magic Lantern appeared.

comment Why do wide angle prime lenses have relatively small apertures?
This is a really good question, wonder if Lens Rentals Roger Cicala is about, he seems to know more about the sordid history and concerns of lens design than most.

comment What Canon film SLR with EF/EF-S lens support should I get?
@dpollitt it's not quite the same experience though is it? It's close but no cigar, there's an overlap but the experience with film I imagine does force a change of perspective. Best way to develop (no pun intended) is to be outside of your comfort zone.

There's definitely many ways, but I suppose I should have said instead of skills my approach possibly. Currently I'll shoot and quickly guesstimate the settings I need and most of the time it works, but I want it drilled so it's second nature. I'll definitely take a look at the AE-1 though, thank you!

I have mostly EF lenses (I don't own many which helps). Thanks for the recommendation, I'd seen the 300V and added it to the list so I think that might be the one to go for.

@dpollitt I'd still feel tempted to shoot and think "it's only bits", rather than "it's £5, make it count".
