A qualified chemist who somehow drifted into web development. I've learned (to a greater or lesser degree of accuracy) PHP and JavaScript, and would like to learn something completely different for the sake of it. I'm a weirdo who actually enjoys reading (and sometimes writing) technical documentation.

comment My attention gets repeatedly distracted by the elements needed for the context in this picture. Where am I going wrong?
Is show a typo for she?

comment Do photographers see ambiguity in the color of the blue/black (gold/white) dress?
Everyone's saying blue/black or white/gold, and I'm sitting here seeing blue/gold.

comment Is there a personal photo sharing site that does not use user content for commercial purposes?
I'm pretty sure you can actually use Dropbox to achieve the effect you're looking for. I've never actually tried this, which is why this is a comment and not an answer.

comment What does it mean for a photograph to be “high key”?
@jrista. Dictionaries are descriptive, not proscriptive.

comment What makes “fine art” fine art?
"All art is quite useless." Oscar Wilde, The Picture of Dorian Grey, Preface.

comment Why do people say they like “art” and “photography”, instead of just “art”?
@RussellMcMahon. I'm a voracious reader who's never seen any point to thinking in terms of genre. It seems to me one of the least important things about a book.

@jrista. Dictionaries have never, ever defined language. Come join us on EL&U.

comment What does “Signing off attribution” mean?
It's just the phrase "the creative commons license". I've seen lots of people claiming that their blog, or their pictures, or whatever are under "the creative commons license", with no indication of which license they mean, so that phrasing jumps out at me.

comment What does “Signing off attribution” mean?
That's the Creative Commons Attribution (CC BY) license. I know you link to it, but it's still important to clarify, as many people are under the mistaken impression that there's only one CC license.

comment What is this “lines in the sky” effect called?
In A True Image from False Kiva, Wally Pacholka managed to create a similar effect in a very remote location with no light pollution.

comment What style of composition for food photography triggers people's appetite?
@mattdm. That's just gravy.
