comment Why am I having trouble getting sharp results with my new DSLR, compared to a point and shoot?
Any chance you could post a few of the problematic images in raw? It's hard to tell in some cases how much is post-processing and how much is from the camera.

Do you shoot raw or jpeg?

comment What would be the right way to shoot a portrait in a very dark room with flash?
Here's a tip: Separate the autofocus function on your camera away from the shutter button, if possible. This will allow you to use whatever light is necessary for autofocus, even a flashlight will do, trigger autofocus, and then turn off that light and just take the photo with the shutter button. Here's how to move autofocus to one of the buttons on the back of the camera: dpreview.com/forums/thread/2798738

comment Is there a way to avoid focus searching?
You can switch to manual focus, or use a different button for focusing than the one you use to take the shot: youtube.com/watch?v=FzqQskGoURE&feature=youtu.be

comment Effective zoom of Sony 55-210 lens (e-mount for NEX series camera)
A lens with 400-800mm focal length would have a 2X zoom (800/400 = 2x), this is not the number you're looking for to describe how much magnification you will get from the lens. The 800mm value, however, is.

comment Space in the Canon BG-E9 battery grip for … something?
I was probably a bit too eager when unpacking everything last year to actually read that manual :) The battery door fit nicely in there. When taking the picture of the battery grip, I actually had to go find the box the camera came in to find the battery door to get the camera to turn on, yet it still didn't register with me that the little illustration with the arrow was of the battery door. I went through the manual now, just to make sure there wasn't any other surprises, and lo and behold, I finally figured out why there was a small rubberized "flap" where the batteries went in :) Thanks!

It doesn't? I was just interested. It caught my eye so I thought I'd ask. To be honest I like to know everything there is about the tools I use, so this was just a little mystery to me.
