comment Macro photography with an ultra-wide lens and extension tubes?
Well since the point of macro photography is to enlarge the subject as much as possible, the only way to make macro photographs with a wide angle lens is to have the subject extremely close to the lens. As Ken points out this is an effective way of using wide angle lenses. So photographing objects that aren't super small with the wide as close as possible may lead to interesting effects. Rather then aiming for the subject to be as large as possible, maybe aim for the subject to be large but well placed in the frame to make the background look interesting with the wider perspective.

Ken is sometimes ...questionable, but he does have good days and the linked article is excellent.
