If you only need to use PS for HDR, you could consider a specialist HDR application like Photomatix, which integrates reasonably well with Lightroom

yeah, it means you don't need to do the final step of "pull it back into Lightroom" - if you simply hit Save in Photoshop it'll show up in the LR catalog.

Great advice. It would be a good idea to start off with Lightroom, then add Photohop when you reach the point where you need it. You can open an image in Photoshop (CS5 or Elements) directly from within Lightroom, including any edits you've made within Lightroom
