comment Why don't stock DSLR camera straps have quick-releases on them? And where can I find a simple strap that does?
I agree completely. Is the slight time saved by a quick release worth the increased risk of a smashed camera? I only just trust the normal straps on my camera as it is!

comment Why are tripods forbidden in some public spaces and how to deal with it?
If there's nothing indicating that you're not supposed to, how are you supposed to know? 'Tis easier to beg forgiveness than to ask permission! :) But I do take your point. I wouldn't do this in a gallery for example.

comment Why would I get a Monopod over a Tripod?
I like the Manfrotto tripods, I'll have to see if I can track down a store that actually stocks their monopods. A tilt head would be good, but would also add some extra weight... have to see one in action I think.

Thanks for the link, I've not used a monopod before, so this was definitely worth reading!

comment What are alternatives to a tripod when I can't take one along?
After my Gorillapod dropped my camera twice (luckily onto soft surfaces), I'm very hesitant to recommend them.

Was about to say pretty much the same, this explains things pretty well really! Gorillapod-type systems can be ok if you've got a light enough camera, and monopod for a faster option.

comment Why are my filters lost on import in Aperture?
Ah, so there would be metadata on the RAW file specifying that the Monochrome filter was selected, and in theory, that could allow another application down the track to re-apply that filter. That makes more sense.

Thanks, I was starting to suspect that might be the case. Pity that Panasonic's manuals are so basic--couldn't find anything much about RAW images there. On the plus side, it led me to find this site! Much to learn here :)
