comment What swirly bokeh technique is this and how can I achieve it?
Good point. The busier the background and the better it is lit the better the result.

comment How to fix wavy horizon in panoramas, ideally in LR?
Thanks, I downloaded Hugin and it does not support dng files and that's a deal breaker for me. I will get a trial of PTGui which does support dng and see how that goes. $90 seems a fair price. I would certainly like to have a more advanced sofware for doing night panoramas as those are stacked and require usually more than 15 images.

i didn't correct distortion, good point. i didn't think it was necessary since i took this with a 50mm prime so there isn't that much distortion. Still, i went back and corrected distortion using the lens profile and re-built the pano. Much better but still some issues.

Looks interesting but is this an effective tool for the horizon problem? I don't much care about the boundary although it would be nice not to have to use photoshop for that.

comment Should 8x10" prints be actually 8x10?
my 8x10" prints are almost exactly 2mm smaller on both the short and the long side which is the maximum tolerance based on the link you provided. However I did some reading and it seems that most 8x10" frames and mats have an overlap from 1/4 - 1/2 inch so I should be good.

comment Best approach for accurate & fast focusing of fully manual lenses without live view. Focus chip, focusing screen or another approach?
I have since reconsidered the "without Live-Wiew" part and installed magic lantern on my backup body. I decided that the ML options are quite fantastic especially the half press button 10x magnification, picture in picture with 10x magnification, focus confirm and focus peaking. Amazing. No need for chips or focusing screens anymore.
