Photographer, tech head, and extreme sport enthusiast.

I'm an amateur who likes to shoot everything from portraits to landscapes. My favorite venues are half way up a 14k mountain, Ontario in Fall, and the Mediterranean at sunset.

I love talking technology, new equipment, and Canon lenses.

comment Facebook C2 on browsers versus other applications
If you are going to write a 3,000 character story, you might want to include a short summary. This is difficult to read. Also see: photo.stackexchange.com/questions/16350/…

comment If I'm using only one focus point, am I doing it wrong?
1. Be aware that focusing on the center point then moving the camera can cause issues with accuracy 2. Be aware that Ken's website is for entertainment purposes only.

comment Do any birth photography books exist?
I awarded this answer the bounty as I appreciate the effort. I did not select this answer as no actual text seems to exist beyond a self published book that I dont think anyone would actually buy since it is mostly fluff.

comment Dark Shadow Spot showing up on every photograph
It is beyond my understanding why someone would ask a question on a photography website such as this and not post at least an example image(or in this case a link to an example image). -1 from me.

comment Which filter do I need for my Canon EOS 60Da
I would recommend seriously questioning anyone who says that you need anything for photography beyond a camera and a lens. Why do you need it? What is it for? What happens if you don't have it, etc.

comment How many keywords are possible in Lightroom without a performance penalty?
@JohnThomas - I agree. Also without quantifying "lack in performance", it would be easy to argue as soon as you add 1 keyword performance is lacking. It is arbitrary as defined and not very useful for anyone. Your answer for example states "keep your total number of keywords at minimum". What exactly does that mean, 10 keywords? 10,000? 1,000,000? None of this is very useful or practical anyways.

comment Can I recover my aurora photographs?
If you click on an image in Windows, Explorer will tell you the capture date/time. It's pretty easy!

comment Can I recover my aurora photographs?
I just get a kick out of when people have timestamps on their images... I thought digital photography made that obsolete but people still seem to love it.

I would recommend a "push" of the date time stamp :-P

You can't fix what isn't there. If this was shot in some RAW format(not JPEG) there might be some hope. You might be able to take some abstract "artistic" take on the image but it will never look as it did in person.

I have to agree with you. I think all I will have to work with is the bits and pieces from these websites(along with other non birth photography related knowledge and texts). Thanks for the help.

comment Do any birth photography books exist?
As for the "handbook", once I got past the excessive cost they are asking for it, I previewed 19 pages and was lets just say, unimpressed. At any rate thank you for your answer and assistance. Unfortunately I think it is a difficult topic to google and not get mixed results as you pointed out, and it also seems to be a topic not very well covered in general.

Yes I have done a great deal of googling on the subject as well. Unfortunately those results as well as the FAQ you have linked to are either extremely light on content(blogs that try to sell services) or are focused on the business itself(which I am not interested in).

comment Why does feathering the light gives softer light?
@mattdm - It looks like the light source moved a bit further away/to the side of the subject and is no longer directly hitting the subject.

comment For maximizing photo adjustment performance, which hardware upgrades matter most?
After the recent news(apple to cease development of Aperture), I don't know if I would focus on hardware upgrades for that suite. Just a thought. See also: photo.stackexchange.com/questions/52371/…

comment Is this blue tint because of the film or the process?
@OlinLathrop - The user did previously explain exactly why he is using film in the first line of his first question on this site: "I would like to try out photography in Black and White, specifically because it just has an awesome contrast and makes the motive "pop" in a certain way that color just detracts from (or maybe I have just discovered how much I like Ansel Adams' photos)." I also linked to this in my comment above, where I suggested you add your negative sentiment instead. Overall I just don't think your comment is necessary, I believe they are themselves irresponsible.
