Photographer, tech head, and extreme sport enthusiast.

I'm an amateur who likes to shoot everything from portraits to landscapes. My favorite venues are half way up a 14k mountain, Ontario in Fall, and the Mediterranean at sunset.

I love talking technology, new equipment, and Canon lenses.

comment I'm having trouble recovering a deleted image. Much older deleted images are showing up in the program, but not this one which was erased yesterday
photo.stackexchange.com/q/1125/4892 - Try another option. PhotoRec for example.

comment Why is my 430EX firing sporadically on my 40D?
Sounds like a battery issue.

comment Is there a plug-in to create a satin-like texture/light effect?
Could you post an example of this effect?

comment Why don't manufacturers include shutter count in the camera menus?
@DanWolfgang he is likely referring to recent events with magic lantern. It's quite an unfortunate situation and I do know of some professional videographers who are pulling back usage of the firmware - petapixel.com/2015/04/14/…

Ask. Then repeat.

Why exactly would they offer shutter count as a feature? Is it going to help sell more units? Are you sure that no camera manufactures do include this functionality and make it as hard as you describe(hint:no).

comment What do I need to do to take Aurora borealis photos by iPhone4S?
Aaron. I get your point. I've lived in Duluth MN and now live further south in Minneapolis. Thanks.

@Aaron - Yes it varies of course on your distance from light sources and just pure luck! But using an iPhone you will certainly need all of the best luck you can get!

comment Editing and saving RAW files, and the relationship to the XMP sidecar files
Ya I knew you knew but I'm just afraid that people might assume LR is doing something that I don't believe is default behavior and can really be a shock for some when it comes to backup/restores!

Lightroom has the option to store changes to sidecar files. It can also save edits in its library/database so keep that in mind.

Put the speedlights on stands and zoom them out.

I find it comical that all of the answers thus far have taken this question way beyond the simple :)

This is very related: What camera settings should be used to capture sky shots without over exposing the clouds?.

comment Is there any difference in image stabilization in smartphone camera and DSLR camera?
From memory I thought the iPhone 6 Plus only used OIS in video and not stills?

comment What lens is best for a red carpet community event?
Overall, I want you to know why I answered like this and am looking for you to apply a bit of knowledge to the situation. I think you can do it!

comment What lens is best for a red carpet community event?
The point of my answer is not to only answer your narrow situation but rather to share information that can be used and applied to both you and others in a similar but different situation. You may need to do some simple math to take the focal lengths I suggested and apply them to your situation for example. You may also need to consider the equipment I mentioned that you don't own, and why I would use it to see if you can achieve similar results with equipment you do own(why a flash bracket? For example).

Things I probably should remember from my photography education; but do not :)
