comment Can great photographs be taken with not-so-good equipment?
It depends on what you call a great picture. I lot of nice photos are taken every day by smartphones and uploaded e.g. to flickr. They are probably not something you would call 'the great shot', but they do have a pretty decent level of quality and often they have artistic composition & lighting.

comment Is there a point and shoot that offers “on-camera” creative photography features as in cellphone apps?
@dpollitt My first compact camera Sony DSC W300 has had b/w & sepia modi which were applied instantly & irreversibly.

Latest Samsung cameras as well as Nikon Coolpix 800 use Android as their operating system, which I can imagine, will allow to program custom post-processing filters just like apps.

comment How can I get better focus results with my Nikon D90 at a fashion show?
I think that in Nikon D90 the continuous focus mode is called 3D focus.

comment How do you correct the yellow tint of a vintage photo and restore the original colors?
Try AutoTone in Photoshop. surprisingly, this simple feature often works very well for photos with shifted color balance.

comment What is your workflow for “don't care” photos?
Not really a full answer: my "don't care photos" find there way directly into the bin, if I didn't delete those earlier in the camera.

comment What is the practical difference between phase-detect and contrast-based autofocus?
the mirrorless cameras are not so much cheaper, as stated. if we compare mirrorless canon G12 (440eur, amazon.de/…) with a low-level digital SLR canon (523eur, amazon.de/…), we see that the price difference is not big. The customer's choice still depends on what purpose the camera will be used, but not so much on the price.

comment How do I explain that post-processing is an important step in producing good photos?
This is true. I think people call a photograph "photoshopped" only when it looks artificial to them. Of course, sometimes this is the intention of the photographer, but in some other cases the term "photoshopped" may indicate that a photograph has been edited badly.

So in my case the answer would be yes: that's plagiarism.

comment How do I create this soft bright look?
i'd try negative clarity values in adobe camera raw or lightroom, in junction with high vibrance.

This is really a very similar case to mine. Someone copied another image in order to avoid paying royalties to the original author. And it was proven he had done a copyright infringement based on the composition, color, lighting and motive.
