Software architect and developer, currently Director of Architecture at a Canadian software company in Toronto. I use a variety of technologies but at work it's generally C++, HTML, ASP (JScript), Flex, and SVG. For personal stuff, I tend to use PHP, C#, perl, and everything I use at work. :)

I've been designing and developing for well over a decade in the enterprise software market, first with IP billing, now with ticketing (no, not TicketMaster). I'm a classic case of a jack-of-all-trades, but my intuition is good and I pick up programming languages like a sponge picks up water.

I'm a moderator on Photography.SE and I'm an avid amateur photographer and especially enjoy nature and macro photography. I've also started getting into more studio oriented stuff, acquiring some lighting, background stands, and other gadgets for that purpose. My current weapon of choice is the Nikon D800. Check out my website for some of my photography DIY projects, some of which have been featured on the well-known DIY Photography site.

I'm now on 500px and you can see my portfolio that is in dire need of growth...

I'm also a moderator pro-tem on Pets.SE because I have a keen love and interest in animals. Over the years, I've had as companions dogs, cats, rabbits, hamsters, guinea pigs, fish, turtles, and budgies. As a result, I've learned a lot about caring and enjoying, sometimes the hard and sad way.

comment What tripod should I get for my Canon 60Da
There are a fair number of tripod questions on the site, I would suggest reading those and then, if you have additional questions, ask them. As a good rule of thumb, going cheap to start just ends up being more expensive in the end.

comment How to compare a Catadioptrics light asorbtion with a reflector?
This question appears to be off-topic because it is about telescopes. The question has already been posed on the astronomy site, so I'm not moving it.

comment What are the international translations for Canon DSLR body names?
As evidenced by the answers not being maintained, this is not a good question for the site.

Undeleted. It's a wiki answer anyways and, surprise-surprise, Wikipedia is up to date and the accepted answer is not.

Going cheap on a tripod is seldom a good idea...

comment Leaving Apple Aperture for Adobe Lightroom, is there any way to avoid losing my photo adjustments?
@KendallHelmstetterGelner - Presuming it actually happens... Reminds me of my days using Pentax when we all assumed that full frame was coming real soon now and never did. His choice, of course, but if we wants to get on LR now, then I don't really see much of another way.

comment Leaving Apple Aperture for Adobe Lightroom, is there any way to avoid losing my photo adjustments?
@KendallHelmstetterGelner - Once in a standard format, such as TIFF (or DNG if Apple provided that) then it would be fine. The sliders translate to adjustments that would understandable when it was said and done. In any event, without a tool from Apple or Adobe, TIFF seems to be the best "right now" option.

comment How to get beautiful even and soft lighting on face?
Did you watch the video? The octa was up high and in front, the hair light was to the rear, and he had a reflector from below. After that, it's pretty clear the image has been retouched. Also, eyes are the guide to light, don't cut them out, it makes no sense.

Are your images JPG or raw?

comment RGB colour correction of CCD camera images
Sorry, but I think it's very borderline and slightly on the wrong side of it. This appears to be for a barcode scanning application and I'm not really seeing how this will help photographers.

comment Is there a situation in which taking exposure bracketed photos at only the widest separation (±3EV) doesn't work?
@KartickVaddadi - Your question notes low light and long exposure, which implies something other than fast daylight, so noise is a factor. Besides which, the more general answer(s) to the larger audience should consider it in any event for the topic to be of use to the photographic community.

comment Question about legal usage of stock and photos with attribution
This is a legal question, however its answer is something I think is blazingly obvious in every sense of the word.

Okay, no worries, I wanted to trigger a response. So, the problem is, the questions do match. Can you refocus this question to cover ground that you think is missing? I'm happy to reopen if you're able to do that.

I'm going to assume it does since you didn't respond and have been back since I asked.

Does the question linked by @mhlester answer for you? The bodies of the question are basically the same.

comment What are the pros and cons of the two Sony mounts — E and A?
I'm more concerned that you're trying to make this a discussion. The site is not designed for that, it's for questions with answers. If you want a discussion, then I would encourage you to visit our Photography Chat

comment Does a .png file extension on an iPhone image mean that the photo was edited or altered in any way?
@MichaelClark - By definition, yes, file conversion is alteration, that's inescapable. Meaningful alteration? That's speculation, depends on other actions.

@MichaelClark - Also, he mentioned it was with an iPhone. AFAIK, the native camera app does not save PNG.

@MichaelClark - I made some edits to remove the legal-speculative angle, so it's back to the heart of what you're looking to answer. However, I would request that you avoid using comments to answer. Please use the editing and voting system as means to bring a question back, comments are very likely to be deleted, especially if they're used to replace answering.
