Software architect and developer, currently Director of Architecture at a Canadian software company in Toronto. I use a variety of technologies but at work it's generally C++, HTML, ASP (JScript), Flex, and SVG. For personal stuff, I tend to use PHP, C#, perl, and everything I use at work. :)

I've been designing and developing for well over a decade in the enterprise software market, first with IP billing, now with ticketing (no, not TicketMaster). I'm a classic case of a jack-of-all-trades, but my intuition is good and I pick up programming languages like a sponge picks up water.

I'm a moderator on Photography.SE and I'm an avid amateur photographer and especially enjoy nature and macro photography. I've also started getting into more studio oriented stuff, acquiring some lighting, background stands, and other gadgets for that purpose. My current weapon of choice is the Nikon D800. Check out my website for some of my photography DIY projects, some of which have been featured on the well-known DIY Photography site.

I'm now on 500px and you can see my portfolio that is in dire need of growth...

I'm also a moderator pro-tem on Pets.SE because I have a keen love and interest in animals. Over the years, I've had as companions dogs, cats, rabbits, hamsters, guinea pigs, fish, turtles, and budgies. As a result, I've learned a lot about caring and enjoying, sometimes the hard and sad way.

comment CMYK vs RGB - Can a DSLR take CMYK images?
@drfrogsplat - No idea really, they were pretty early in the game and not much made of them since.

They are since they have the filters in place. There are exceptions, of course, but the vast majority are based on the traditional bayer model. Nevertheless, I can tweak the answer to be more clear.

comment What camera & lens combinations are ideal for animal photography
I have to admit that suggesting somebody asking such a basic question consider buying equipment costing north of $18,000 seems to be suspect advice. If he's that new to the game, you might want to start him off a little less costly...

comment Is there a budget fish-eye for Pentax Q system?
There is an adapter for Pentax K-mount lenses to the Q-mount, giving access to more lens options, but it's more expensive than the fish-eye and wouldn't make a lot of sense unless you had K-mount lenses already or were looking to buy a Pentax dSLR as well.

Hi Daniel. I see a couple of problems with this question... the biggest is that it's too broad, there are a lot of possible answers to it because it's not only camera/lens options, it also includes preferred subjects. Secondly, it has a strong potential to be opinion based, rather than entirely factual, and is going to result in answers with a brand bias that can lead to debate.

comment What software to locate duplicate photos?
Hardly a rousing consensus on that meta question... that duplicate is 3 years old and not well answered. In fact, if they were recent answers, half of them would be deleted especially any answer that says Google it. At any rate, the OP doesn't have the rep to entice interest in it and given the age, I'm not sure it would attract anyways.

@mattdm - I agree, but the old question has terrible answers...
