comment How would I get my travel photos published?
Not publishing anything else than your very best picture makes totally sense to me, but would that imply that you wouldn't use a flickr account for example just to share or post some pictures of the second class quality range? And by that I mean you were using this account just for fun and not for professional purposes. Or would you consider this as a career killer?

The best lens is a pancake lens of course :-)

Exactly, formatting the partition is trivial, that is why we put our pictures in a raw datablob beyond the partition table and having a tool that can manage this for us and also does the encryption. IronKey is doing the same, but seperates application and data memory into two different physical entities, which makes it stronger, no argue about that. Besides, the Autorun.inf and the Encrypt tool work best together, because they do different things. I thought I pointed that already out in my first comment.

I agree if someone wants to do so and goes low level, beyond the partition table then you have lost. But it is rather unlikely that you will find those kinds of viruses on Internet Cafe PCs. The most common ones you can find nowadays are non destructive virus, cause sniffing information and spreading is more worth than destroying an USB Stick. And we simply want to prevent our pictures/Stick becoming a carrier for those malicious buggers. An IronKey is basically the hardware version of what I have described here, but you can have most of its features done in plain software.

+1 because you managed to ask the Question as I tried to in my miserable "Useless Equipment" Question :-)

beyond that virtual limit, that is only known to the encryption tool.In case someone would format the partition you simply recopy the tool and you can access your files again. This will actually increase your security not only against viruses but also against the authorities, if that would be any concern. You would need a special virus written for that scenario to compromise, but this simply too unlikely, as there is no benefit for the virus in it.

@Billy ONeal: I expect Internet Cafe computers to be already infected and therefore I have to expect them to be able to compromise my Stick. If you can disable autorun, my virus could enable it again. But that is not the real issue. Protection of your pictures is. The proper strategy works like this to protect an virus from wiping your stick: The virtual size of the stick gets reduced to a fraction of its physical size.this is where the de/encryption tool resides. The virus will think that this device is not bigger and could only wipe that part. The pictures are laying in a hidden part
