comment What exactly is flash sync speed, and should it be a factor in a buying decision?
Note that when action is so fast that faster than sync speed shutter is needed to freeze it, there will be rolling shutter artifacts visible because capture time of edges of the frame is still sync speed apart.

comment What's the difference between CCD and CMOS image sensors?
@smigol That is indeed how fast sync works, but it will be less efficient regarding flash to ambient light ratio.

comment Is analog gain really actually power-of-two only?
I doubt it's nitpicking when shooting JPEG, where the idea might be to avoid need for post-processing as much as possible, and there's much less leeway in dynamic range.

comment Why is there a mechanical shutter in a digital camera?
@ybungalobill Thanks for pointing out, edited to clarify this. It appears the technology is implemented in high-end cameras, but most people just wouldn't consider million-dollar systems (or even $30k systems) a viable option for photography :)

comment Is it safe to zoom while taking a photo for the effect?
What about AF mechanism, can it be left engaged? Simpler lenses don't allow AF override, and zooming affects focus on varifocal lenses. E.g. a Canon zooms manual warns to not touch rotating parts while AF is active, but it's hard to align zooming exactly with shutter.
