comment Can anybody suggest a camera and flash combination for high speed, fast recycle time, night time photography?
What are you trying to achieve with shutter speeds faster than max sync speed? With High Speed Sync, the flash has to blink several times and therefore exposing the frame takes more time than with a single strobe of light. You're also getting worse flash-to-ambient ratio, because you're wasting as much of flash as you're killing off ambient; meanwhile, the flash has to be weaker to recycle fast enough.

comment How could I have counteracted purple lighting?
@MichaelClark No, skin isn't actually blown out in any channel. Red channel histogram fades off below 220, and blue is only blown in moderate amount on some shirts - nothing too bad, detailed out nicely by other channels. Removing the blue channel would mean, with this kind of lighting, eliminating the most useful (least noisy) channel.

comment Why do DSLR cameras still use monochrome LCD as their top displays?
The question is not talking monitors, but displays, which is a wider concept. Segment displays, instrument panel lights, needle displays are some examples of non-raster displays.

Are you asking for faster shutter speed, less shutter lag or higher frame rate? What are you current results? Regarding frame rate, continuous shooting with G10 is limited at 0.6 fps with continuous AF and RAW, 1.4fps without; no software would speed up past that.

Before voting to close this question as a purely video-related question, please consider that extracting video frames is sometimes suggested as a workaround for some still photography problems, e.g. long shutter delay, short maximum exposure time or low frame rate.
