Are Manfrotto tripod bases for video compatible with the photo line of heads? How does the head connect to the base? What is this 75 mm bowl on teh video base? I think this plays into @Itai comment above about an adapter. |

What are good advanced books on the physics and science of photography? I had to borrow both books through inter-library loan so I didn't have much time with them. I used the second book more, and don't remember much about the "Applied photographic optics" book. I do wish I had copies of both books. |

How is colour balancing performed in post processing of raw images Have you wrote your own post-processing software and are getting results that are different from Adobe PS? |

Where is the color mosaic filter on a DSLR sensor? @Matt Grum, Albeit not your typical consumer cameras, Vision Research and Photron make cameras with and without the a CFA. The monochrome versions are significantly more sensitive than their color counterparts. A small aside, how do I make this a comment to one of the other answers? Sorry, I'm still learning the whole stackexchange websites. |

How to test actual focal length? I just tested a canon lens set to f=55 mm, and the measured focal length was 52 mm +/- 0.75 mm. |

How to test actual focal length? As an example. I image a two meter (S_o) stick which is 10 meters (d_o) from the camera. From the image the two meter stick is 1000 pixels wide. Each pixel is 10 micro meters giving a image size of 0.01 meters (S_i). The magnification is M = S_i/S_o = 0.01 / 2 = 0.005. I think M = f / (f-d_o), you might want to confirm with an optics book. The focal length f can be calculated. |
