I'm an enthusiastic amateur or a semi-pro photographer, depending on mood and day of the week. :)

comment How secure is Flickr's “disable download of original image” feature?
Really? Can you prove it by downloading the Original (2400x1600) size version of this image? I suspect you haven't quite read the question properly.

comment How secure is Flickr's “disable download of original image” feature?
You've either misread the question or misunderstood the issue. I stated clearly "I'm well aware that once an image has appeared in their browser, a determined user can easily download it". You've only downloaded the Large size, not the Original. Try reading the question again and I'm sure you'll see what I was asking. Unfortunately for you the "jargon" is there for a reason!

comment Why is Canon 60D considered 'better' than Canon 700D?
Snapsort is great at answering these kinds of questions objectively: snapsort.com/compare/Canon-EOS-700D-vs-Canon_EOS_60D

Nice! I'd never heard that term before but I like it too.

comment Is there any practical difference between saving at 300ppi or 72ppi?
Matt: You're absolutely right, "it doesn't really matter". Nowhere do I say that it does. It's a minor issue of convenience for the person setting the page who asked you for a 6x4" image at 300dpi, that's all. I've tried to explain that as clearly and factually as possible. Any answer will be misread by a person who skims it, but the number of upvotes indicates plenty of people have found it helpful. Michael: Thanks for your comments.

comment Where can I buy high quality greetings cards blanks in the UK?
This question seems perfectly reasonable to me. I thought we'd sorted the whole "country = too localised?" thing many times before, e.g. photo.stackexchange.com/questions/14353/….

Thanks Olin, some great tips in there.

comment What is a Canon Digisuper lens and why is it $200,000+?
"Canon's Tripple Digit Zoom Lens with Auto Focus Function" - all that money on a lens and they still can't spell "triple". :)

comment What's a good iPhone application to view large images (5000px+)?
p.s. Note that 1040x1536px is the size of iOS 7's new parallax wallpapers on the iPhone 5. Clearly then 1536px is as big as Apple thinks you need to go.

That came as a surprise to me too but I tested it and fmark is correct. A 5616x3744px 5.04MB image transferred to my iPhone via iTunes then brought back either via Dropbox (at full size) or e-mail (full-size) has become 2304x1536px 1.22MB. A 1040x1536px 600KB wallpaper image transferred the same way is still the same dimensions but now 403KB. So it looks like (on an iPhone 5 running iOS 7) iTunes shrinks to a max size of 1536px and applies compression.

comment How to make a panorama from pictures with distortion
Have you tried Microsoft ICE? I find it much better than other panorama tools I've used and it's simple to use too (and free!). research.microsoft.com/en-us/um/redmond/groups/ivm/ice

comment Is there any plugin for Lightroom that enables face recognition?
As the questioner says they're considering Aperture it means they're using a Mac, so this won't be a solution for them.

comment How do I pan an image in Lightroom while using the adjustment brush?
:) It's actually a pretty common shortcut - it works in Photoshop and a few other programs too.

comment Is there a way to add captions to Lightroom photos based on title and/or description?
And the question starts by saying those aren't the solutions the questioner is looking for.

I'm not aware of a free solution but I guess anyone who can afford Lightroom can afford 3€.

comment How to correct photos which were overexposed at the edges only?
You can easily compensate for that by using the Exposure slider though. Use Recovery first to get the blown highlights to where you want them, then tweak up the Exposure to correct any loss in other areas. Recovery remains the best tool for correcting the kind of damage you described in your question. You did say yourself that "it may be hopeless" - unless there's a better answer out there, unaccepting this one seems harsh!

@longneck Exactly as they would be because the dock is stationary whilst the water and clouds are moving.

comment Can I save the JPEG preview image that's generated in-camera when I shoot in RAW-only mode?
Nice to know about I suppose, but dcraw -e wins every time on simplicity.

That's a brilliant answer - thanks! I just downloaded dcraw and it worked exactly as you said. (It took me a few minutes to find a 64-bit Windows version but it's here).

comment What causes this sort of RAW file corruption?
@MikeW There's no 'probably' about it - that's exactly what it is.
