comment Are Toshiba SDHC cards good for Canon DSLR cameras?
You could also try getting the Toshiba cards (if you're truly set on them) from Amazon - though I got some very cheap Transcend 16GB Class 10 SD cards from Amazon recently.

comment How can I see photos on my PC as I shoot them?
I'm sorry, what do you mean by "Manual Zoom"? Do you mean using the computer to zoom using a motor/servo (That can't be done), or just as a 'preview' device after taking each shot (which begs the question, why can't you see the effect of the focal length in the viewfinder)?

comment How many blades does my lens' aperture diaphragm have when I get 12-pointed starbursts?
Important part of this answer (mainly for understanding of how a DSLR works): "Look at the lens. As others have pointed out, the aperture blades are in the lens, not the camera body."

comment How to compare two DSLR bodies?
In addition to this @ysap's answer gives a very important difference between DSLRs in their 'crop sensor' sizes.

comment How can I achieve this effect, where the flower is sharp and everything else is blurry?
This is the best how-to answer, but I suggest that you also read the explanation of @rfusca who explains WHY this occurs.

comment In what way does shutter speed affect a photo?
@Jukka 's related Q is a better response to this question. EDIT: Wait, they're both posted by @Jukka. Well the second link then. :P

comment How to test what aperture is actually used?
@Jukka Measure the width of your LED (or other point light source)?

comment Why are blown highlights particularly bad in digital photography?
I recall somewhere that blown highlights in digital are far easier to 'reclaim' in post than underexposing... maybe just a FYI so people don't read this and start -2EV stops all their photos?

comment Can a video camera produce a high quality still photo shoot?
I would mention that when shooting on a hybrid-DSLR (such as the Canon 550D, 7D, 5D etc.) Then using the shutter-release button whilst recording will save a higher-resolution image to the SD card. However this is at the expense of a second or so of footage capture and it will not be at the 'normal' full resolution of the camera.

comment How much better is a macro ring flash than a “normal” external flash, for macro shots?
Do also take a look at the links in @ysap 's answer, however I think this better addresses your question.

comment Are there general rules for selecting the correct shutter speed and ISO in manual mode?
I would also suggest, quite simply: practice. Eventually, you'll get better at guessing what exposures you'll need.

comment Would the Tamron 18- 270 mm F/3.5-6.3 Di II VC PZD make a good choice as my second lens?
I have the Canon 70 - 300mm, and whilst it's a wonderful lens, it's no good for portraits or macro (which I take you mean by Flowers/Insects), purely because of the focal length, especially on the 1.6x crop sensor of your 500D (or my 550D).

comment What should my plan be for photographing in a nightclub setting?
Little bit of a broad question, unfortunately. Could you give us a full gear list of what you've got, or do you only have the D90?

comment What's different about photographing at sunrise vs. sunset?
These particles in the air coming from traffic pollution, industrial complexes, power stations etc.

@Aristos I love how that sounds all regal and religious. But, yes: RTM.
