The brightness, although I guess the sparks would cause some damage if you were unfortunate enough to cop one in the eye.

comment Sigma 150-500 f/5-6.3 vs Sigma 50-500 f/4-6.3 for birds in flight?
Can you reformulate this into a question? What exactly would you like to compare between the two lenses?

+1 Thanks very much for the suggestions. You say that "Exposing the arc to the sensor for long can damage the sensor". Can you quantify what you mean by long?

comment Why can't I get a shallow depth of field (DOF) effect?
@Matt Grum Sounds great, if you don't get to this I will eventually. I would also love to be able to elect to keep one of focal length, f-stop and subject distance constant and get a nice graph of the changing depth of field.

comment Why do two different cameras using the same settings produce photos with different exposure levels?
Does that mean that if the experiment were repeated but with raw files and identical raw development settings were used you would expect to see a closer match?

Shizam, was the 17mm too wide on a crop or full-frame body?

comment How do I combine multiple exposures for action shots?
+1 for providing a way of getting the same effect in camera. It might be useful to add that an ND filter can help lower the light enough for a long exposure.
