What are some of your pre-shoot checklist tips? Hi alan, the one thing i always take that is not on your great list is a lens cloth. |

Will a dSLR and compact camera produce the same bokeh output at f/2.0? Hi andrew, the depth of field is different when using the equivalent focal length and same fstop on a compact, compared to a full frame. The panasonic lx5 at 50mm equivalent field of view (actual 10.6mm focal length), focussing at 3m, at f2.8 has a depth of field of 3.5m. the leica m9, using a 50mm lens at 2.8, has a depth of field of just 0.6m. I have used the lx5 lens spec from dpreview, and the calculator at dofmaster.com I understand your point, but the comparison with equivalent field of view is more practical comparison in real world situations. |

Why are there no fast APS-C zooms beyond 55mm? ps the linked question you gave gave an answer that explained part of the similarity in build. the front element is a fixed size for a given focal length / aperture, regardless of sensor size. |

Why are there no fast APS-C zooms beyond 55mm? Hi Imre, thats pretty much what i thought. But i dont understand where there are so many normal fast zooms of 24-70 equivalent, but not one fast zoom offering the 70-200 equivalent (apart from the discontinued sigma and tokina). the dx equivalent of a 70-200 would be much smaller / cheaper, but i guess seeing both tokina and sigma leave this niche, it is not very profitable at all. Cheers |

How can I create a smart collection that checks for only *one* given keyword in Lightroom 3? does this work now with lightroom 3.4? i have set up a smart collection using "starts with" and "ends with" "flickr", and it is returning only those photos with exactly "flickr", excluding a photo that i had with the dummy keyword "flickrzzz". |

Why are my night photographs always blurry? that makes sense as i haven't seen exposure compensation in manual mode before. |

What settings should I use for an air show shooting? hi miguel. i was at a an event a couple of weeks ago where a couple of red-bull stunt planes performed a short display. i found most of my pictures caused the planes to be quite under-exposed. if i was to shoot the same thing again i would try to expose the sky as bright as possible to expose the planes better. i found the tracking of the aircraft quite tricky, and i was using a 105mm lens, the longest i had. it will be even trickier with a 250mm lens. if i had the aircraft in the frame the focus wasn't too problematic. |
