comment Nikon D5100 - completely white image
The "camera became unresponsive for a few seconds" bit forces me to think that shutter was open for that duration. Either you unintentionally bumped some setting or some problem with camera metering forced it into a long exposure. Can you provide exif from the washed out image?

comment Can Nikon flashes display flash power used right after a shot was taken?
-1. I dont think sb600 can do it. But if above article mentions about this feature then please quote relevant section.

comment How does TTL flash metering works in film cameras?
Thanks Matt. So in this case, where flash duration is measured realtime, how does rear curtain sync works? Would it be accurate to say that rear curtain is not precisely rear curtain, flash pulse starts at a point of time assuming complete flash duration and can cut off moment before curtain closes?

@Roland, actually the question is more for an external flash that can be used with Nikon bodies and can display flash power used.

comment How differently should I use a flash with film camera?
@jarnbjo, after couple of rolls of films, and using regular ttl, without any compensation underexposed the pictures. I was bouncing flash off walls. I suppose ttl, unlike ittl, doesn't have preflashes, that determines true flash power. It calculates flash power based on subject distance. So either i should have compensated for extra distance flash light travels while bouncing.

@JohnCavan, so what is the answer. I'm at no position, at this point, to select from two different answers with equal upvotes :-). Should i use ttl or not? I'll be using flash on camera and bounce off wall and stuff.

comment Why do I get two JPEG files instead of RAW+JPEG when transfering to my computer from my Nikon D5100?
Not an answer to your question, but a suggestion. If you are using Nikon's View NX2 (or Capture NX2) then raw+jpeg is a waste of space. The generated jpeg in raw+jpeg is generated by applying in camera setting to raw. View NX2 does exactly that.

@David, Nikon CLS practical guide has a series of blogs explaining Nikon flashes. 5th blog in the series answers exactly this.

comment Am I permanently altering my NEF/raw files if I save changes in Nikon ViewNX 2?
@StanRogers, You are technically correct that the changes are stored in NEF file itself but it should not mean that we are permanently altering the original data. By data i mean picture data, not lower level bits and bytes.

comment Am I permanently altering my NEF/raw files if I save changes in Nikon ViewNX 2?
@BenjaminCutler, I just checked that "Edit > Restore Original" option in View NX2 for NEF files edited in Capture NX2 is disabled. So I'm not sure if i can get back to original NEF file using View NX2.

Although correct for View NX2, not quite accurate for Capture NX2. Selecting 'Original Version' from version selection dropdown will take you back to the original raw file with in camera setting applied version. For example if i've vivid set as picture control and i change it to lets say portrait. Reverting back to original version will have vivid applied.

comment Blur a background using a photo
This is more of a photoshop than a photography question. You need to find something like 'Gaussian Blur' option in photoshop and apply that to the layer you want to blur.

comment Why does blue sky gets rendered as black in black and white film photos?
@mattdm, It was processed and printed at a small shop in India. No fancy lab. I'll ask them if they dodge/burn photos and let you know.
