Best auto-feed photo and/or negative scanner? Indeed. The lifetime of bits is infinity if you move them to new media when appropriate. And common formats like JPEG and PNG will be readable as long as we have computers. |

Does a filter exist to color-correct color negatives when copying them with a DSLR? Lightroom 3. I haven't actually tried any of this yet; I want to make sure it's feasible before I buy a macro lens, etc. I think the problem people are having is not that it can't be done, but that with 2+ fewer stops of information in some channels, the quality is poor. |

Does a filter exist to color-correct color negatives when copying them with a DSLR? I'm not expecting the filter to do the inversion; that would be in post (and thus the same problem would be present with the scanner). It's that the strong orange tint of the negative means other colors are severely underrepresented, making color correction after inversion difficult. Regarding speed, the article I read was talking up to 10 slides per minute for the raw capture. |

Why is there not a protective glass element that is between the lens and shutter in a SLR? Re. point (b): wouldn't the smudge be spread out to the point of invisibility? And the assumption in point (c) that the glass would be cheap is unwarranted; any sensible manufacturer would use glass of quality consistent with the body. |

How do Micro 4/3s cameras compare with DSLR cameras? @MikeW, the E-5 is a 4/3 camera, not a Micro 4/3. |

How to rate the optical quality of a used lens? Thanks for the heads-up. Not spam; rather, they got hacked. If it's not fixed soon (or if anyone has evidence it's been unrepaired for a long time), I'll remove the link. |

What is the best negative scanner (35mm) for $400 or less? I think there is tremendous value in this question, and I’m glad it’s here. IMO the concerns about value persisting into the indefinite future are pedantic; if we went down that path, this site would be far less useful. |

Is there a mapping tool that will let me visualize a lens's angle of view? Meta: This is the way to suggest that other SE sites may also be useful, not migrations without discussion with the OP that we often fall into. |

What do you do with your camera clock time in relation to time zones? The reason I stopped setting my camera to local time is the difficulty of cleaning up after I inevitably forget to do it or leave it on some random time zone after returning home. |

What is the easiest way to preserve old glass plate negatives? this doesn't actually appear to be about developing, but rather scanning; however, please revert if I've misinterpreted |

How do I know if I'm ready to turn professional? Well, if you can't win, why try? At best, you'll just waste your time. But the larger point is, going pro is so difficult that if one is uncertain about it, then it's pretty likely to be a bad idea. One must be exceedingly driven and passionate in order to succeed. |
