comment Can a 2 mp camera produce a 2 mb sized file?
@MichaelClark - I very much doubt the asker old cellphone produces raw files, the only files you can get out of the phone are processed image files, so I think this answer is right

comment When should I consider an image sharp?
@mattdm - the question was about checking for degraded sharpness relative to when the equipment was new - this is a valid concern since things can get knocked out of calibration, I answered with some easy (except for the ruler, that I now deleted) tests the asker can run to see if the equipment really is damaged or if it's only fear and uncertainty, I really don't think I did anything bad (it's better then telling him "everything is fine, you are crazy"). I don't want to add to the "fear and uncertainty", I'll add a disclaimer at the top saying the equipment is probably fine

comment When should I consider an image sharp?
@mattdm - this is not a question about compering cameras, it's about quality degradation in the same camera - and sharpness is easiest to see in 100%, I agree about the 45deg ruler being hard to get right, I'll update the answer

comment Is there a way to delay shutter release when using a remote shutter, possibly with the aid of Magic Lantern?
The 550D has in-camera options for 2 seconds and 10 seconds delays, when you use a wired remote the camera will used those settings. I don't know about the IR remote or Magic Lantern
