comment Is there a way to delay shutter release when using a remote shutter, possibly with the aid of Magic Lantern?
The 550D has in-camera options for 2 seconds and 10 seconds delays, when you use a wired remote the camera will used those settings. I don't know about the IR remote or Magic Lantern

comment Is in-camera HDR and panorama better than post?
@feetwet - the current generation of inertia-sensor-based stitching is pretty mediocre (at least based on everything I downloaded to my phone) while the current generation of content-based stitching is amazingly good - I don't see any reason to care about the missing inertia data for at least a few years.

comment Solutions to Multiple 70D Connected to a single computer?
can't find anything that supports wifi, digiCamControl (digicamcontrol.com) and Breeze systems DSLR Remote Pro Multi-Camera (breezesys.com/MultiCamera/index.htm) both offer multiple camera controls but not wifi (according to the web site, never used any of them)

comment Should I expect better results from more expensive variable ND filters?
Why don't you get a fixed ND filter? a fixed ND filter will have less effect on the image because there's less glass and no polarization - and for the amount of money you are spending on a variable ND filter you should be able to get a set of reasonable quality fixed ND filters at different strengths
