comment What is something you learned recently about your gear that you wish you discovered earlier?
For the longest time, I didn't even realize the meter worked in manual mode. I had been half-pressing in Av or Tv mode, and trying to memorize the settings to use as a starting point in manual.

comment Are DSLRs a dying breed, making now the time to switch to a mirrorless camera system?
Regarding lens compatibility, it should be possible to make nearly any existing DSLR lens compatible with any mirrorless interchangeable lens camera. A design advantage of being mirrorless is that the distance from the lens mount to the sensor can be smaller. The DSLR lens needs to be held out a little farther from the sensor, which can be accomplished with an adapter without any additional optics. The adapters may not exist yet, but they will appear if the market is there.

comment What are the pros and cons of a video camera versus a DSLR that can take video?
@Daniel, DSLRs have autofocus, but the autofocus sensors are separate from the image sensor. The AF sensors get their light from the partially transparent mirror, and when it's flipped up to take video, the AF sensors can't operate. Some cameras can also look at the image in the video and adjust the focus to maximize contrast, but this is nowhere near as quick as the dedicated AF sensors.
