comment My viewfinder is too small — what can I do about it?
@Itai: Coverage is unrelated to viewfinder size — even high-end full frame cameras such as the 5D Mark II can lack 100% coverage as the precise adjustment of the viewfinder optics is extremely challenging. You can still have a large viewfinder that doesn't cover the entire image, though.

It's been a while since I posted this question. I have a OM-1 now — it's like switching from a phone screen to a cinema! The X-100 is quite good as well, though.

comment What is the best way to improve Aperture 3 peformance on an iMac?
If you have one of the newer Macs with Thunderbolt, that's a great idea.

comment Why do light sources appear as stars sometimes?
@Luis: According to the answers, I suppose you can just open up your aperture.

That's in Singapore - one of the world's biggest harbors :)

comment What is the technical term for the time taken to see the final image on an IP security camera's screen?
You should mention in your question that you are talking about IP cameras.

comment What are common beginner mistakes in photography?
I remember doing that ;-) 90% of my photos were at f/1.4 after I bought a fast prime lens. Nowadays, I try to stick to f/16 and almost never go beyond f/4...

comment What options are there for good, cheap online backup of photos?
@Jon.Griffen that's why you're having a backup.. if one drive fails, you still have the other one.

comment Are manufacturers' Image Stabilisation ratings for zoom lenses deceptive?
@ltn100 It's going to be difficult to find "hard" numbers - the intensity of the hands' shaking depends on the person, so the calculation will always contain some assumptions. The best choice probably is to rely on the experience of as many other people as possible.

Good answer, although I don't own any IS lenses, I'd also say that the IS will probably work better at longer focal lenses than at a wide angle!

comment Which focal-length lens is usually used for portrait photography, and why?
Put your advice first, then maybe at the end link to your article. That should be better :)

comment What film rangefinder camera can I buy for a reasonable price?
I've not yet bought one, I'll do that in November when I return home to Germany. So your answer still helps me :) Thanks a lot!

comment Is there a way to omit the prompt for deletion in Lightroom?
Even faster: Press Cmd+Backspace (probably Ctrl+Delete on Win) to automatically delete all rejected pictures ;)

comment What is the best camera for concert photography?
If you're really in the $1000 price range, I would care a lot more about the lens than the body. The kit lens is usually f/3.5-5.6, which is pretty much useless for action shots in the dark. Get a fast prime lens of f/1.4 or f/1.8 and you'll notice a huge improvement.

comment Is pincushion or barrel distortion really all that bad in a lens?
@jwenting: WTF? In Lightroom I check a box, and it's done in less than a second. It must've been a quite long time ago that this process took minutes.

Regarding "fixing" the problem, have a look at this: blog.lytro.com

comment Are full-frame cameras bad for sports photography?
I don't think comparing the 7D and the 5D Mark II is fair. The 5D is not intended for sports - it is generally slow (including the AF system). Instead, you could look at the D700: It is similarly priced to the 5D and, with a battery grip, equally fast as the 7D.

Also: Can you tell me anything about the switching of the continuous/one-shot and the auto-choice/center-sensor AF mode? On my 450D, I need to press at least 2 buttons for each of those and cannot do the former without taking the camera down to look at the display. Is that better on the 5D/D700? Furthermore, I've heard the 5D has a very good system for saving different sets of settings. Is that correct? Does the D700 have anything similar?

Thanks for your answer! I did go to a store already, however, I don't think it can tell me how I will feel with the camera after working with it for one month. As a Canon-guy, I kind of drift through the Nikon menues unorientedly, discovering interesting stuff here and there, but I don't feel I fully grasp it.
