What are the major differences when digitizing slides/negatives with a DSLR vs. a scanner? I've accepted this answer as it is based on real experience and especially using DSLR gear as a scanner-replacement. Will I lose image quality by adjusting white balance in post processing? True, the white balance data is in the EXIF ie. not in the actual image. With RAW, they're used in processing and with JPEG they're just nice-to-know information. |

What kind of gloves to use for operating a camera in freezing temperatures? Note that the particular camera model (Panasonic GF 3) — and most of the cameras with a touchscreen, anyway — has a resistive touchscreen, not capacitive. In other words that means the screen is pressure sensitive, so using non-conductive gloves wouldn't be an issue. |

What “Top Tips” should I give compact camera users in a short talk? @AJ what—in my experience it works more often with compacts than with DSLRs: DSLRs may have the AF-trigger set elsewhere or a manual lens attached, both of which are rather rare among compacts. I've yet to see a (digital) compact without autofocus, but your mileage may vary. |

When to use the different modes of National PE-201C flash? Exactly the kind of practical info I sought! I had a hunch that "green" and "red" auto modes had had been somewhat common modes among other old flashes, so I am fairly confident to follow the AF280T's manual for that bit; PE-201C manuals seem to be digitally non–existent. What are good advanced books on the physics and science of photography? The ninth edition of Manual of Photography is by Ralph Jacobson, but it seems that the tenth edition (2010) is by Elizabeth Allen & Sophie Triantaphillidou and it is "… completely reworked to include the latest research on digital imaging." |
