I am a floor-level three-shift factory worker by profession. My hobbies are reading, photography and living in peace. Most of my free time I spend at summer cottage which is a winterproof house and should be called our 2nd home instead. I have a family, including two kids, two dogs and five cats.

While I list photography as a hobby, I don't mean I am a good photographer. I just like to use a camera and record a memory of things I see around me. Been doing this since I was 14 years old and I'm not any sort of enthusiast about it. I just like it :)

comment Is it better to have light come from the left side?
This question had been circling in my mind for a few months, and I had planned to ask it myself. Only that I never got the question ready to post. As it now happened, instead of asking, I ended up answering it myself. Either way, I've now got the answer I wanted, and that answer is the one you posted, not my own answer. Thanks, good stuff :)

Removed some useless junk, and while all of this answer might be useless junk, some parts were more so than the other parts.

@Bob - It is always so. When you see a chunk of Swiss cheese you will know there is holes in it. Your mind interprets the figures you see automatically no matter where the light comes from. See a photo of cheese here: theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/wordofmouth/2013/sep/09/…

Let's make it a question...

About the direction of light, whenever you have a choice in it, have the light come from left side.

And when you can choose it, make the light come from the left.

comment What are your photography tips for people who are casual photographers?
This is more a comment to Chills42's answer than an answer. Also the answer from Andrew (about a head in the middle) is already saying this, only in other words.

comment Capturing the Milky Way: what did I do wrong?
@pierre - I'm sorry but I don't have software to work with Nikon RAWs. I only use Sony and Olympus RAW converters and once I had a brief experiment with Nikon's software but deleted it later. RAWTherapee could do it, but I haven't learned to use that program well enough yet :(

I would just pick the suitable answers from the Easiest beginner tips list. There's a lot of good advice that does not involve knowledge about focal length or such technicalities.

comment Astrophotography without a Star Tracker
Welcome to PhotoSE. What do you want to photograph? Tips for shooting planets? or How to photograph the Milkyway? or is it about post-processing problems like noise? or maybe just General tips for shooting landscape and stars together?. It is well covered here under tags stars and milky-way and astrophotography. Use search or just click on a tag.

comment Looking for suggestions for an wide angle lens for Nikon FX
Bytheway, those three are the same lens. Only that Bower has focus confirmation chip, but otherwise Bower, Rokinon and Samyang are all the same lens from the same manufacturer. I have that lens too, mine is under Samyang brand. northlight-images.co.uk/reviews/lenses/samyang14.html
