comment Are equipment reviews from websites like kenrockwell.com and bythom.com reliable?
@labnut: I appreciate the spirit of your concern, but when it comes to this specific website, there is enough established criticism, that I feel that my opinion is warranted, and less "gossip." Ken Rockwell has opinions that the majority of photographers find absurd. He is a sensationalist just like Matt Drudge, except he chooses to write about photography, instead of political muck raking.

comment What tripod is this? Can you recommend something similar or better?
Ah the product image doesn't to that tripod justice. These two are very different classifications. Looking at RRS's web page, the tripod is actually quite a bit larger.

comment Why is chimping a derogatory term?
@Greg: You've confirmed my suspicion. Chimping is a term used by photographers who are bitter because high quality cameras are now affordable by the masses. They're threatened by all the joe-blows out there and have to take an elitist view and disparage other people. My gut-feel is, the better the photographer, the less they care what other photographers do.
