comment What tripod is this? Can you recommend something similar or better?
Ah the product image doesn't to that tripod justice. These two are very different classifications. Looking at RRS's web page, the tripod is actually quite a bit larger.

comment Why is chimping a derogatory term?
@Greg: You've confirmed my suspicion. Chimping is a term used by photographers who are bitter because high quality cameras are now affordable by the masses. They're threatened by all the joe-blows out there and have to take an elitist view and disparage other people. My gut-feel is, the better the photographer, the less they care what other photographers do.

I'm not sure how this relates to photography. This is probably better suited for a physics or applied optics forum.

comment Should I be shooting in RAW even though I'm a beginner that doesn't know how to retouch photos yet?
@Jon: If you are ever in a situation where you don't want to miss the shot, go ahead and set the camera to PAE, or Greenbox. That is basically "fool proof mode" which lets the camera do most of the work. It wont help in a complex lit scene, but for average scenes it does the job. To me, having that fool-proof setting relieves the pressure of having to nail the exposure. It's just something you know in the back of your mind that if you have too, you can fall back on.
