comment Cheap/free tool to view/convert Canon CR2 RAW format photo files on Windows?
@MattGrum: There are work arounds. There are registry hacks online that enable 'update' without previous install.

comment Should the INFO display show the status of both batteries in a Canon battery grip?
I have a Meike grip. Sometimes, even with two batteries it says there's 1 battery, or if I only have one battery, it might say there are two batteries. So it's all craycray. NB: I've a 6d with a meike grip

comment How can I open CR2 files with Photoshop CS4's ACR?
Typically, no information is lost when going from cr2 to dng. The wiki however, [en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_Negative], says that there are reported cases where not all data is kept. *shrug. I would suggest then to store your cr2 files and convert to DNG just for processing and then kill the DNG later.

comment Does the Canon 600EX use face detection for improved ETTL?
Oooooh. This is an interesting thing. I didn't know 1dx did face-detect in PD. I did know about its RGB metering. Maybe this is when it works.

Yeah, turns out that they had done an update since I last updated. I see the distance scale, but it vanishes after it soon loads. I miss the ruler. Offline maps implementation is inefficient for caching large areas as I can't see what I just cached if I move the map a bit. Previously there would be a large square to indicate an already cached area. I couldn't find my places. I'll check. The power drain i've experienced twice is not due to large screen. Phone was freeshly rebooted, on airplane mode, screen of, zero interaction - in an infinite loop somewhere :( Yay 1998!

Yes, the encryption does make, "some sense" but ... sadface still.

Hi. Yep, I thought that the facedetect AF may communicate light reflectance from the preflash to the camera. But then it's a pretty useless feature on the 600ex-RT since it won't work for phase focus but only contrast/70d liveview focus. Phase focus doesn't face-detect
