comment What does the Custom White-Balance *icon* represent?
Interesting idea, Sebastien. Thank you. I can see the triangles in the caliper cursors, but they are oriented differently in the icon. If a graphic designer wanted to represent calipers, I am not sure they would end up with that icon.

Very useful to know. Thank you. I have updated the question appropriately.

comment What does the Custom White-Balance *icon* represent?
Thanks Matt. I did wonder if the icon represented the controls on some old piece of equipment (enlarger for colour negatives?) That was one reason for posting it here: I think there are enough people with an interest in historical photography equipment to recognise it.

comment What does the Custom White-Balance *icon* represent?
Thanks AJ. I did wonder if it was supposed to be a poor rendering of a face, but the other answers suggest not, because it is square on some brands.

comment Does a camera tethered draw power over USB?
do you have any specs or references for what the Canon, or any DSLR, needs? I would have thought 0.5A @ 5V would be enough to drive the mirror and sensor - maybe not the built-in flash. Maybe I haven't got a good feel for it though.

comment Is it doable to take an image I like from web, print, put in a frame, and put on my room wall?
I appreciate this is an opinion, frankly stated. I think it is worth noting that some people would disagree with this opinion (independent, as you say, of where the law stands.)

What region are you in?

comment What is the best Canon lens (around $500) for taking pictures of my newborn?
+1 for the mental jump. "OMG! I am having a baby! That'll change everything. To start with, I'll need new camera equipment!" (More seriously, congrats!)

comment What are the advantages and disadvantages of negative film versus reversal film?
I take your point(s). If the final destination is a print anyway, my answer doesn't stand.

comment What kind of photography is still better done with film cameras?
Would you like to elaborate on why it is more straight-forward with film? It strikes me that post-processing is the perfect time to do this - with its ability to adjust the relative positions, brightness, etc.

comment Why is chimping a derogatory term?
@Alan, you probably already know this, but there is software to view it on Windows and Linux as well. (I don't own a Mac myself.)

comment How can I know what speed card to get for my camera?
@chris, are you finding that you are taking lots of consecutive shots and waiting for the card to finish writing before you can take more? That seems to be the biggest driving force for wanting to upgrade.
